Mexican national charged with possessing stolen firearm

A Mexican national, Jose Adan Gonzalez-Torres, is facing federal charges after being found with a stolen firearm during a traffic stop in Sandoval County. The incident occurred on January 9, 2025, on Interstate 25. Court documents reveal that Gonzalez-Torres was a passenger in the vehicle and admitted to having a firearm inside. A search uncovered the weapon in the center console, which had been reported stolen.

Gonzalez-Torres also acknowledged to law enforcement that he is unlawfully present in the United States. He will remain in custody pending trial, for which no date has been set. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

The announcement of these charges was made by U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Jason T. Stevens, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) El Paso.

Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation with help from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jack Burkhead is handling prosecution duties for this case.
