Charlotte man sentenced for illegal firearm possession

Osco Lothario Jackson, a 37-year-old resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, received a sentence of 64 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for illegal possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by Lawrence J. Cameron, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

The case involved cooperation between Bennie Mims, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Charlotte Field Division, and Chief Johnny Jennings of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

Court documents revealed that on September 6, 2023, Jackson fired into a group that included several teenagers and an adult male. The intended target was struck in the leg. Jackson's criminal history includes multiple convictions for violent and drug-related offenses such as Assault on a Government Official/Employee, Possession With Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury, and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. Due to these prior convictions, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Jackson pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon on June 26, 2024. He will remain in federal custody until placed at a designated facility by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The investigation was conducted by the ATF and CMPD. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimlani Ford from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte prosecuted the case.
