Clifford D. Johnson, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana
John Gierek, a 35-year-old resident of Streamwood, Illinois, has been sentenced to 220 months in prison. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge Holly A. Brady after Gierek pleaded guilty to two counts of using an interstate commerce facility in the commission of a murder-for-hire. This announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay.
Following his prison term, Gierek will be subject to two years of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that between October 2023 and March 2024, Gierek solicited an acquaintance via telephone calls to murder multiple individuals. In exchange for these acts, he offered a quantity of drugs and partial forgiveness of a drug debt. To aid in carrying out the murders, Gierek provided the acquaintance with tape, pepper spray, and a taser.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with support from several law enforcement agencies including the Allen County Police Department, Fort Wayne Police Department, Indiana State Police, and Streamwood Police Department in Illinois. Assistant United States Attorney Lesley J. Miller Lowery prosecuted the case.
