Lexington man sentenced to over ten years for illegal firearm possession

A Lexington man, Adam Pursifull, 40, received a sentence of 124 months in prison for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person. U.S. District Judge Danny C. Reeves handed down the sentence.

Pursifull was arrested on April 23, 2024, following information that led law enforcement to execute an outstanding parole warrant. During his arrest and subsequent search, officers found a loaded firearm in his possession. Pursifull had previously been convicted by the Fayette Circuit Court for trafficking in a controlled substance first degree in May 2014, which barred him from owning firearms.

Under federal law, Pursifull is required to serve at least 85 percent of his prison term. After completing his sentence, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years.

The sentencing announcement was made jointly by Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; AJ Gibes, Acting Special Agent in Charge of ATF's Louisville Field Division; Jeremy Honaker, Acting U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Kentucky; and Commissioner Cookie Crews of the Kentucky Department of Corrections.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including ATF, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, and the Kentucky Department of Corrections. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cynthia Rieker prosecuted the case.

This prosecution is part of "Project Safe Neighborhoods," a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through various strategies including investigations and prosecutions alongside prevention and reentry efforts. In the Eastern District of Kentucky, these efforts are coordinated by Acting U.S. Attorney McCaffrey with support from federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.
