Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Acting Chairman Caroline D. Pham has announced that Brian Young will take on the role of Director of Enforcement. Young has been serving in this capacity since January 22 and previously held the position of Director of the Whistleblower Office. He brings nearly two decades of experience from the Department of Justice, where he served in various high-profile roles including Acting Director of Litigation for the Antitrust Division and Chief of the Litigation Unit for the Fraud Section.
"Brian exemplifies the best of what we stand for at the CFTC," said Acting Chairman Pham. "He is a fearless leader that will build an even more impressive enforcement program that will stay true to the CFTC’s mission to protect the American public from fraudsters and scammers."
Young expressed gratitude towards Pham, stating, "I want to thank Acting Chairman Pham for her confidence in me and for her commitment to continuing the CFTC’s aggressive efforts to protect our global commodity markets from fraud, manipulation, and other abusive practices."
Since joining CFTC in 2024 as Director of the Whistleblower Office, Young has overseen a record number of whistleblower award applications. At DOJ, his recent role was as Acting Director of Litigation for the Antitrust Division where he managed criminal prosecutions under the Sherman Act and civil merger litigation.
Young's career includes significant cases such as prosecutions related to LIBOR manipulation and schemes involving HSBC Bank's Foreign Exchange desk and Deutsche Bank traders. His contributions have earned him several awards including the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service.
