Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting with foreign ministers from France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom, along with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission. The meeting took place in Munich, Germany.
The discussions focused on the significance of the transatlantic relationship and explored ways to collaborate on shared priorities. These included trade reciprocity and achieving lasting peace in Ukraine.
During the meeting, Secretary Rubio highlighted China's ongoing challenges to Western interests and security. He stressed the necessity of protecting economies from what he described as China's unfair trade practices.
Additionally, Secretary Rubio pointed out the importance of close coordination among these nations to address Iran's destabilizing activities, particularly concerning its increasing nuclear noncompliance.
According to Spokesperson Tammy Bruce: "They discussed the importance of the transatlantic relationship and ways to work on shared priorities, including trade reciprocity and a durable peace in Ukraine." Furthermore, "Secretary Rubio also underscored China’s continuous challenge to our interests and security," and emphasized "the need to defend our economies from China’s unfair trade practices." Lastly, he noted "the importance of close coordination to address Iran’s destabilizing behavior."
