Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida
An Atlanta woman, Jermirria Jackson, has been indicted on charges of aggravated identity theft and making a false statement on a passport application. Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney announced the indictment, stating that if convicted, Jackson could face a minimum sentence of two years and up to 12 years in federal prison.
Court records indicate that on January 19, 2022, Jackson applied for a passport using a name that was not her own. Before applying for the passport, she allegedly obtained identification in the victim's name. During the application process, Jackson is accused of impersonating the victim and submitting fraudulent identification as her own.
The indictment serves as a formal charge alleging violations of federal criminal law. It is important to note that every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service conducted the investigation into this case. Assistant United States Attorney Brenna Falzetta is prosecuting the case.
