Bonita Springs man receives 30-month sentence for threats and cyberstalking

Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida

A man from Bonita Springs, Florida, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for making interstate threats and engaging in cyberstalking. U.S. District Judge Thomas Barber delivered the sentence to Aaron Thomas Fister, aged 30, who pleaded guilty on November 7, 2024.

Court documents reveal that Fister was involved in a prolonged campaign of harassment against a former intimate partner and her sister. His actions included making hundreds of harassing phone calls, some occurring in the early hours of the morning. He also left graphically threatening voicemails with numerous threats to kill both victims and their family members. One particularly disturbing threat involved killing and decapitating one victim’s infant daughter.

In addition to these threats, Fister engaged in physically threatening behavior. This included slashing car tires, smashing headlights, hitting a family residence with paintballs, using a GPS tracking device to monitor one victim's movements, and nearly striking one victim with his car while she was pregnant. The severity of the situation forced one victim to flee Florida, leaving behind her family and possessions.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation into this case. Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin S. Winter prosecuted it.
