Lexington woman receives prison sentence for producing child pornography

A Lexington woman, Amy Lynn Cook, has been sentenced to 276 months in prison for producing child pornography. The sentencing was delivered by U.S. District Judge Gregory VanTatenhove.

Cook, aged 38, was identified after law enforcement received a tip-off on December 1, 2023. It was discovered that she had uploaded child sexual abuse material to Google and other platforms like Facebook. During an interview with authorities, Cook admitted to selling sexually explicit images of minors online. Search warrants revealed child pornography images on her devices, including those involving infants that she had produced upon request and for payment.

According to federal regulations, Cook is required to serve at least 85 percent of her sentence before being eligible for release. After serving her term, she will remain under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office indefinitely.

The case was announced by Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Rana Saoud from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI); and Chief Lawrence Weathers of the Lexington Police Department.

The investigation was carried out by HSI alongside the Lexington Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Roth prosecuted the case representing the United States government.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative started in 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing child sexual exploitation and abuse online. This initiative seeks collaboration between federal, state, and local resources to locate offenders and rescue victims effectively.
