An Anchorage man, Benjamin Roundy, also known as "Aleks" or "Alekzander Marko," has been sentenced to over 11 years in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release. The sentence comes after Roundy's attempt to coerce and entice a minor in 2023.

Court documents reveal that in July 2023, Roundy engaged with an undercover agent posing as a 13-year-old girl on an internet-based app. Over nearly a month, he communicated through the app and text messages, initiating sexual conversations and requesting explicit photos from who he believed was a child.

On August 4, 2023, Roundy arranged to meet the supposed minor at a grocery store parking lot in Anchorage. After receiving instructions from the undercover agent about her fictional location, Roundy left his home to meet her. Law enforcement arrested him at the scene with personal lubricant and condoms found in his vehicle.

The investigation uncovered thousands of images and videos depicting child sexual abuse on Roundy's electronic devices. He pleaded guilty on April 25, 2024, to one count of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.

First Assistant U.S Attorney Kathryn R. Vogel for the District of Alaska commented on the case: “Mr. Roundy’s conduct was heinous... Our office’s commitment to safeguarding Alaska’s children from those who seek to exploit their innocence is unwavering.”

Special Agent in Charge Rebecca Day of the FBI Anchorage Field Office added: “The defendant posed a significant threat to children... Even in the darkest corners of the Internet, the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force will find a way to seek justice for our most vulnerable.”

The case was investigated by the FBI and Anchorage Police Department under Project Safe Childhood—a nationwide initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Alexander and Trial Attorney Rachel L. Rothberg prosecuted this case as part of ongoing efforts against child exploitation.
