Apple has introduced the iPhone 16e, expanding its iPhone 16 lineup with a more budget-friendly option that still boasts powerful features. The new model incorporates the A18 chip and Apple's first cellular modem, the C1, promising efficient performance and extended battery life. "iPhone 16e packs in the features our users love about the iPhone 16 lineup," said Kaiann Drance, Apple's vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing.
The device comes equipped with a 48MP Fusion camera and a 2x Telephoto lens for enhanced photography options. Satellite features such as Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance are included to maintain connectivity in remote areas. Available in black and white finishes, pre-orders start on February 21 with availability from February 28.
Apple's emphasis on durability is evident in the iPhone 16e's IP68 rating for water resistance and its robust Ceramic Shield front cover. The device offers a Super Retina XDR display and supports both wireless charging and USB-C connections.
The phone integrates Apple Intelligence for improved user interaction, including new tools like Image Playground and Writing Tools. Users can access ChatGPT without creating an account, maintaining privacy through Apple's Private Cloud Compute system.
Environmental considerations are part of Apple's design philosophy, with over 30% recycled content used in manufacturing. Pricing starts at $599 or $24.95 per month for two years, with trade-in options available to reduce costs further.
The iPhone 16e will be available in various storage capacities across multiple countries starting late February, alongside localized Apple Intelligence support set to expand throughout the year.
