Bokeelia man pleads guilty to possession of child sexual abuse material

Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida

Vincent Jay Yau, a 42-year-old resident of Bokeelia, Florida, has entered a guilty plea for possessing child sexual abuse material. Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney announced the plea and stated that Yau could face up to 20 years in federal prison. He has also agreed to forfeit his laptop and cellphone, which were used in committing the offense. The date for sentencing has not been scheduled.

Court documents reveal that Homeland Security Investigations executed a federal search warrant at Yau's residence, discovering multiple electronic devices linked to him. These devices contained thousands of files with child sexual abuse material, including images of toddlers.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project brings together resources from federal, state, and local levels to locate and prosecute individuals who exploit children and rescue victims.
