A federal grand jury in Salt Lake City has indicted two men on charges related to methamphetamine distribution in Utah. The accused are Alphonzo Robert Bell, 42, from Midvale, Utah, and David Alejandro Jimenez-Angel, 24, from Jalisco, Mexico. They were initially charged by complaint on February 2, 2025.
Court documents reveal that law enforcement conducted a controlled buy operation on February 4, 2025. During this operation, a confidential informant purchased eight ounces of methamphetamine from Bell for $2,800 in government funds. A portion of these funds was given to Jimenez-Angel. The total weight of the methamphetamine was approximately 246 grams. Both men were detained following the transaction. Investigators also seized a Taurus G3C handgun during the investigation. Immigration authorities confirmed that Jimenez-Angel is illegally present in the United States.
The charges against Bell and Jimenez-Angel include distribution of methamphetamine and aiding and abetting. Additionally, Bell faces charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Their initial court appearances are scheduled for February 20 and February 27, respectively.
Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti announced the indictment. The case is being investigated by the Unified Police Department’s Directed Enforcement Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Williams is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and violent crime through community collaboration and strategic enforcement priorities.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
