Rubin Moye, known as "Nut," faces serious charges following an indictment for ordering murders in 2011 and 2015. Acting United States Attorney Matthew Podolsky and HSI Acting Special Agent Michael Alfonso announced the unsealing of the indictment. Moye is accused of directing fellow Crips gang members to kill rival gang associates, resulting in the deaths of Phillip Richards on August 4, 2011, and Michelle Cox on March 4, 2015.
Moye is alleged to be part of the Santana Block Crips set operating around Valentine Avenue in the Bronx. The indictment claims he ordered these killings and personally attempted to murder a rival's mother. "Rubin Moye allegedly terrorized his community for years," stated Acting U.S. Attorney Matthew Podolsky. He emphasized that despite these crimes occurring years ago, justice will still be pursued.
Michael Alfonso highlighted the commitment to public safety: “The defendant’s indictment for the 2011 and 2015 murders of innocent victims underscores HSI New York’s commitment... Together with our law enforcement partners, we refuse to let lawlessness run unchecked on the streets of New York City."
The case against Moye includes charges of murder in aid of racketeering, murder while engaged in a narcotics conspiracy, and murder through the use of a firearm. These charges carry severe penalties including life imprisonment.
Acting U.S. Attorney Podolsky commended the work done by Homeland Security Investigations’ Violent Gangs Task Force and NYPD’s Bronx Violent Crimes Squad. The case is being managed by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Frank Balsamello, Matthew Hellman, Michael Herman, and Ashley Nicolas from the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit.
Moye's charges remain allegations until proven guilty in court.
