Baltimore, Maryland – Igor Yasinov, a 35-year-old resident of Baltimore, has been sentenced to 110 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Julie R. Rubin for four counts of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees and inflicting bodily injury.

The announcement was made by Phil Selden, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, alongside Clinton J. Fuchs, U.S. Marshal for the District of Maryland, and Carolyn J. Scruggs, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

During a four-day trial, evidence showed that on November 16, 2021, Yasinov assaulted several correctional staff members at the Chesapeake Detention Facility (CDF) in Baltimore. CDF is a pretrial detention center housing federal inmates awaiting case dispositions under an agreement between the U.S. Marshal Service (USMS) and the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS).

The incident began when Yasinov broke a control-center window with a broomstick at CDF. While being transported to receive medical treatment for minor injuries sustained during this act, he threatened correctional officers escorting him. After treatment and while being moved to a segregation unit, Yasinov became uncooperative upon learning he would not return to his original housing unit.

Yasinov resisted returning to his cell and fought with correctional officers attempting to escort him there. He swept one officer's leg causing her and others to fall before officers managed to restrain him with leg irons and carry him into his cell.

Inside the cell, Yasinov continued fighting until he eventually allowed officers to remove the restraints after they ordered him to face the wall so they could exit safely. However, as the last officer attempted to leave the cell, Yasinov charged at them again causing further physical altercations resulting in injuries including a fractured tibia among other head and limb injuries sustained by multiple officers.

Acting United States Attorney Selden praised "the U.S. Marshal Service for their work in the investigation" while also acknowledging Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Aubin and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob Gordin who prosecuted this case.
