Off-duty Border Patrol agents from the Tucson Sector intervened in a car accident on state Route 187 near Sacaton, Arizona. The incident occurred early Thursday morning when the agents were en route to work and witnessed a collision involving two vehicles. A Gila River Police Officer also arrived at the scene.
The agents quickly acted to remove both drivers from their vehicles, which had caught fire following the crash. Emergency medical services soon arrived and provided treatment to both drivers and one agent who suffered hand lacerations while breaking a window to free an occupant.
Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent Sean McGoffin highlighted the broader role of Border Patrol agents beyond their official duties: “The one thing no one really talks about the Border Patrol is the human element,” he said. “We rescue people out in the desert. We are first responders on accident scenes. We are there to help when buildings are burning down, whether or not we are on or off duty.”
