ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Border Patrol have detained a Venezuelan national, Luis Angel Alvarez-Alvarez, in the Detroit suburb of River Rouge. The arrest took place on February 11th when Gibraltar Border Patrol Station agents apprehended Alvarez-Alvarez, who was an ICE fugitive with a final order of removal.

During the arrest, officers searched his cellular device and discovered alleged child sexually abusive material. This prompted them to contact ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Following an investigation by ICE HSI agents, it was determined that the material depicted sexual abuse involving a toddler-aged minor. Consequently, Alvarez-Alvarez has been charged with production and possession of child pornography.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan is prosecuting this case. Until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court, defendants are presumed innocent.

Alvarez-Alvarez remains in custody as he awaits the outcome of these charges.

The public is encouraged to report any immigration crimes or suspicious activities by calling the ICE Tip Line at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or completing an online tip form.
