U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has apprehended Edwin Eli Maldonado-Paredes, a 39-year-old Honduran national, on February 18 in San Antonio. Maldonado-Paredes was found to be illegally present in the United States after having been deported twice before.
According to ICE, Maldonado-Paredes was initially ordered removed by an immigration judge on October 12, 2012, and subsequently deported to Honduras on October 24, 2012. He attempted to reenter the U.S. on December 30, 2013. The U.S. Border Patrol reinstated his previous removal order on that date, leading to his second deportation to Honduras on January 10, 2014.
Currently, Maldonado-Paredes is held in custody by the U.S. Marshals Service as he awaits prosecution for reentry of a removed alien, which is classified as a felony federal crime. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to two years.
