A North Carolina resident has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted enticement of a minor. U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton L. Peeples announced the sentencing.
Jonathan Allen Norris, aged 45 from Carolina Beach, North Carolina, received his sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Anna M. Manasco. The sentence includes a life term of supervised release following the prison term. Norris had pleaded guilty in October 2024 to charges of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor, necessitating his registration as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
Court documents reveal that an undercover law enforcement officer, posing as a 15-year-old girl, responded to an advertisement posted by Norris on social media in December 2022. On January 6, 2023, Norris traveled from New Mexico to Birmingham with intentions of engaging in sexual activities with a minor.
Authorities urge anyone suspecting or aware of child sexual exploitation to contact law enforcement immediately. Reports can be made through the FBI Birmingham Office at 205-326-6166 or filed online via the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) at www.cybertipline.org.
This case was prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. This project involves collaboration among federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute offenders while rescuing victims. More information about this initiative is available at www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI alongside the Homewood Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel S. McBrayer handling prosecution duties.
