Ahead of the Mobile World Congress 2025, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and IBM have announced an expanded collaboration aimed at enhancing enterprise-grade generative artificial intelligence (AI) solutions across edge and cloud devices. This partnership is designed to improve immediacy, privacy, reliability, personalization, and reduce costs and energy consumption.
Durga Malladi, senior vice president and general manager of technology planning and edge solutions at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. "At Qualcomm Technologies, we are excited to join forces with IBM to deliver cutting-edge, enterprise-grade generative AI solutions for devices across the edge and cloud," he said. He emphasized that this partnership allows businesses to deploy AI solutions that are fast and personalized while offering robust governance, monitoring, and decision-making capabilities.
Ritika Gunnar, General Manager of Data and AI at IBM, highlighted the strengthened ability brought by this collaboration. "Deepening our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies strengthens our ability to bring enterprise-grade generative AI from the cloud to the edge," she stated. She added that optimizing IBM's watsonx.governance and Granite models for Snapdragon and Qualcomm Dragonwing platforms helps businesses leverage AI's transformative power regardless of data location.
The companies plan to integrate watsonx.governance for generative AI solutions powered by Qualcomm’s platforms. They will also support IBM’s Granite models through the Qualcomm AI Inference Suite and Qualcomm AI Hub.
Qualcomm Technologies has optimized IBM Granite 3.1 language models for the Qualcomm AI Hub to enable developers and businesses to harness AI potential at the edge. The expansion includes governance guardrails for on-device models via watsonx.governance capabilities.
Additionally, the Qualcomm Cloud AI family of accelerators is now certified for Red Hat OpenShift. This certification supports deploying IBM’s software applications suite using hardware solutions based on Qualcomm Cloud AI.
