William S. Thompson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia
Terric Zaire Williams, a 25-year-old resident of Akron, Ohio, has been sentenced to six years in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release. This decision was announced by Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston.
The case stems from an incident on March 29, 2023, when law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a Charleston apartment where Williams was staying. During the search, officers found three-quarters of a pound of methamphetamine in a dining room trash can and a living room closet. Williams admitted his intention to distribute the seized drugs.
During the same operation, officers also arrested Williams' girlfriend, Emariel Kanay Tyler. Tyler was found with a firearm outline visible in her pants and pockets containing cash and suspected drugs. Tyler, aged 20 and also from Akron, pleaded guilty on November 18, 2024, to using a communication facility to facilitate drug trafficking. Her sentencing is set for March 5, 2025.
United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston delivered the sentence while Assistant United States Attorney Lesley C. Shamblin prosecuted the case.
