The House GOP Doctors Caucus has voiced strong support for H.R. 879, the Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to halt a 2.83% cut affecting physician practices, marking the fifth consecutive year of such reductions. The bill also proposes a 2% payment update to help manage increasing operational costs.
"You don’t have to be a physician to understand the threat to access for Medicare patients these continued cuts pose," stated supporters of the bill. They emphasize that those directly involved in patient care witness these impacts daily and are urging both patients and physicians concerned about access to reach out to their lawmakers before the March 14 deadline for the continuing resolution.
Since its introduction, H.R. 879 has gained traction with growing support within Congress, now boasting 99 bipartisan cosponsors. Advocates stress that if Congress were made up entirely of physicians, passing this bill would be straightforward. However, only a few lawmakers have medical practice experience, yet they are leading this initiative in hopes that their colleagues will join them.
