Two Turkish men were apprehended for illegally crossing into the United States from Canada, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack. The individuals, Serif Alihan, 33, and Mustafa Kaya, 32, have been charged with illegal entry and are scheduled to appear in federal court.
The incident occurred on February 26, 2025, when a Beecher Falls Border Patrol Agent discovered Alihan and Kaya near Hall Stream, which borders Pittsburg, New Hampshire and Canada. The agent noted that the men were covered in snow with wet clothing. Footprints traced by the agent led back to Hall Stream, ending on the U.S. side and resuming on the Canadian side.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection spearheaded the investigation while Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Hunter is handling prosecution duties.
"The details contained in the charging documents are allegations," stated officials involved in the case. "The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
