U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have arrested David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, a high-ranking leader of the MS-13 gang, in Hyattsville, Maryland. The arrest took place on February 27 and involved cooperation between ICE and the FBI.

“The apprehension of David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman strikes a significant blow to the leadership and organization of the MS-13 terrorist organization,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations acting Field Office Director Matthew Elliston. He emphasized that this arrest highlights the effective collaboration between ICE and the FBI in their efforts to prioritize public safety by removing illegal alien offenders from communities.

Orellana is recognized as a key figure within MS-13, overseeing operations across multiple regions including the United States, Mexico, and Europe. FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno commented on the impact of Orellana's arrest: “Maryland is immediately safer because of this arrest. Working together, we took custody of one of the highest-ranking gang members in the United States.”

Authorities in El Salvador had previously arrested Orellana on December 1, 2016, charging him with possession of a firearm, extortion, and terrorist affiliation due to his documented membership in MS-13. His illegal entry into the United States occurred at an unspecified time and location without inspection or authorization by U.S. immigration officials.

The Prince George’s County Police Department had also arrested Orellana on December 9, 2024, for driving without a license prior to his detention by federal authorities.

Following his recent arrest, Orellana remains in ICE custody. Members of the public are encouraged to report crimes or suspicious activities by contacting 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or using an online tip form.
