A Mexican national has been sentenced for illegally entering the United States for the fourth time. U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei announced that 30-year-old Jesus Alberto Castro-Garza received a 106-month prison sentence after pleading guilty on December 19, 2024.
U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton imposed the sentence on Castro-Garza, who is not a U.S. citizen and is expected to face removal proceedings again following his imprisonment.
Castro-Garza's criminal history includes felony convictions for injury to a child, assault family violence impeding breath, evading with a vehicle, and human smuggling. He was first removed from the country in 2019 but returned illegally three times thereafter, with his last removal occurring on November 21, 2023.
Authorities found him in custody at a local jail in the United States on December 24, 2023.
Castro-Garza will remain in custody until he is transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility, which will be determined soon.
The investigation was conducted by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda McColgan prosecuted the case.
