A Laredo man has pleaded guilty to charges of receiving and possessing child pornography, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. Eduardo Rosas, 25, admitted to having numerous images and video files depicting child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on his iPhone.
The investigation into Rosas began when authorities discovered that CSAM had been uploaded onto a Kik account linked to him. A search warrant executed at his residence led to the seizure of several electronic devices, including an Apple iPhone 11. Forensic analysis of these devices revealed 43 images, 99 video files, and 85 thumbnail files depicting CSAM. Some materials included bondage, infants, bestiality, and sadistic content.
Rosas is awaiting sentencing from U.S. District Judge Diana Saldaña and faces up to 20 years in federal prison along with a possible $250,000 fine. He remains in custody until sentencing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa A. Lopez is handling the prosecution as part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC). This initiative was launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse through coordinated efforts involving federal, state, and local resources.
