Acting United States Attorney Nelson S.T. Thayer, Jr., announced that Jesus Del Orbe, a 55-year-old Dominican citizen residing in Philadelphia, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison and one year of supervised release for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Judge Joseph F. Leeson, Jr.
Del Orbe was indicted last August and pleaded guilty to the charge in November. He had previous convictions for illegal reentry in 2017 and 2019, respectively in the District of Puerto Rico and the Southern District of Texas.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested Del Orbe at a tire shop in Philadelphia in July 2024. Records indicate he had been deported from the U.S. on three prior occasions: March 1, 2016; February 20, 2018; and November 17, 2020. He did not seek permission to return each time.
"If you’re going to keep breaking the law, we’re going to keep prosecuting you," said Acting U.S. Attorney Thayer. "Mr. Del Orbe has repeatedly and deliberately entered the United States illegally, in contravention of our immigration laws."
Brian McShane, ERO Philadelphia Acting Field Office Director, remarked on the case: "The repeated illegal reentry by Jesus Del Orbe demonstrates a flagrant disregard for our nation’s immigration laws." He added that this sentence highlights their commitment to maintaining law integrity.
The investigation was conducted by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorney John J. Boscia.
