Schuylkill County man receives five-year sentence for firearm possession

Cornelius Green, a 37-year-old resident of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for a firearm offense. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani on February 27, 2025. Green was convicted for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that Green had pleaded guilty to possessing a Kel-Tec Model RFB 18 caliber .308 semi-automatic rifle. This firearm had been transported across state lines. Green was aware that he had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison. Judge Mariani ordered the five-year sentence to run consecutively with an earlier seven-year sentence for brandishing a firearm during a robbery.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched an enhanced strategy for PSN focusing on community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and result measurement.

The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Schuylkill Haven Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney James M. Buchanan prosecuted the case.
