U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Presidio port of entry in Texas seized 27 pounds of cocaine on March 2. The drugs were found hidden in a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old male U.S. citizen.
"CBP officers employ multiple tools and techniques to identify and stop drug smugglers," stated CBP Presidio Port Director Benito Reyes Jr. "This layered enforcement approach allows CBP to quickly separate legitimate trade and travel from those who attempt to violate the laws of our nation and stop the flow of drugs from entering our nation."
The incident occurred just after 4 p.m. when a 2018 Nissan Rogue, driven by a lone male, arrived from Mexico. Officers selected the vehicle for further examination.
During the search, officers discovered multiple bundles concealed in the floorboard area. A CBP drug-sniffing dog also alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. Additionally, a non-intrusive scan showed anomalies in the floorboard compartment.
Officers removed ten cocaine-filled bundles from this area.
The driver was arrested and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents to face federal charges related to this smuggling attempt.
