Apple has announced the release of a new iPad Air equipped with the M3 chip, which aims to deliver improved performance and portability. The M3 chip is expected to make the iPad Air nearly twice as fast as its predecessor with the M1 chip and up to 3.5 times faster than models with the A14 Bionic chip.
The new iPad Air comes in two sizes, 11-inch and 13-inch, available in four finishes: blue, purple, starlight, and space gray. Bob Borchers, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, highlighted that "iPad Air is so popular because of its unmatched combination of powerful performance, portability, and support for advanced accessories."
The device supports Apple Intelligence features such as enhanced graphics architecture and AI capabilities through a faster Neural Engine. It also includes support for Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), alongside compatibility with a newly designed Magic Keyboard.
In addition to the iPad Air announcement, Apple revealed updates for their standard iPad model now featuring an A16 chip which promises significant improvements in performance compared to previous generations.
Both devices are part of Apple's initiative towards sustainability under their "Apple 2030" plan aimed at achieving carbon neutrality across their operations by the end of this decade. The new products feature recycled materials including aluminum enclosures and rare earth elements in magnets.
Pre-orders for both devices began on March 4th with availability starting on March 12th across multiple regions including the United States.
