An investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has led to Jose Luis Carrasco-Aldape, a 37-year-old Mexican national, pleading guilty to illegal reentry into the United States. Carrasco-Aldape, who has been deported twice before, now faces up to two years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been determined.
Carrasco-Aldape was arrested on February 13 following a criminal complaint and was ordered detained. He had previously been removed from the United States on October 12, 2017, and March 22, 2004. On February 13, he was found in Clay County, Florida by law enforcement officials. At that time, Carrasco-Aldape had not obtained consent from the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to apply for readmission to the country.
The case is being investigated by ICE Homeland Security Investigations Jacksonville in collaboration with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin C. Frein is prosecuting the case.
