Mexican national faces charges for illegal reentry after multiple deportations

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

An investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has led to the arrest of Kerin Orellana-Serrano, a 30-year-old Mexican national, on charges of illegal reentry into the United States. Orellana-Serrano could face up to 10 years in federal prison if convicted.

Orellana-Serrano was apprehended in Marion County on February 14 for state charges related to domestic violence battery and providing false identification to law enforcement. ICE confirmed his Mexican citizenship and discovered he had been deported from the United States four times previously—on September 14, 2018; September 19, 2018; October 25, 2018; and February 8, 2024. It was also noted that Orellana-Serrano had not sought or obtained permission from either the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reenter the country.

Furthermore, Orellana-Serrano had a prior conviction for illegal reentry as a previously deported alien in January 2024 within the Middle District of Florida.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg is prosecuting this case.
