Turkish man arrested for alleged sale of counterfeit goods at Ohio mall

A Turkish national, Emre Teski, was arrested by federal agents in Dayton, Ohio, for allegedly trafficking counterfeit goods at kiosks in a local mall. Teski, 25, is accused of selling replica professional soccer jerseys and hats with trademarks from teams such as FC Barcelona and Manchester City. He also allegedly sold oversized slippers resembling sneakers with Nike and Air Jordan trademarks.

Teski entered the United States illegally from Mexico on September 10, 2022. Despite being ordered removed from the country on January 3, 2024, he appealed the decision and was granted employment authorization while his appeal is pending. His kiosks are located at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek.

Charging documents state that Teski sold an investigator counterfeit Nike slippers using the trademarked Swoosh logo and a pink Messi jersey. Agents executed a search warrant at his kiosks today and seized items with confirmed or suspected counterfeit trademarks.

"Trafficking counterfeit goods is a federal crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison," stated Kelly A. Norris, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio. Jared Murphey, Acting Special Agent in Charge of ICE's Homeland Security Investigations Detroit office, joined Norris in announcing the charges.

Assistant United States Attorney Ryan A. Saunders will represent the United States in this case. It is important to note that "a criminal complaint merely contains allegations," and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
