A Lawrence resident, Ruben Dario Guerrero, has been sentenced in federal court for falsely claiming U.S. citizenship in a passport application. Chief U.S. District Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV sentenced Guerrero to 21 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release. Post-sentence, Guerrero faces deportation.
Guerrero, 44, pleaded guilty in November 2024 to charges of making a false statement on a passport application and identity theft. The case stemmed from an August 2023 incident when Guerrero applied for a U.S. passport using the personal details of a deceased U.S. citizen from Puerto Rico.
"United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Matthew O’Brien, Special Agent in charge of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, Boston Field Office made the announcement today," with Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert E. Richardson prosecuting the case.
Identity documents confirm Guerrero is a Dominican citizen, contradicting his claim of being a U.S. citizen under penalty of perjury.
