Claremore man sentenced for robbery and assault on elderly woman

Clinton J. Johnson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma

A Claremore man has been sentenced to 78 months in prison following his conviction for robbery and assault charges. Teddy Lee Martin, aged 63, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge John D. Russell for Robbery in Indian Country and Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony in Indian Country. Alongside the prison term, Martin will undergo three years of supervised release and is required to pay $6,000 in restitution.

“Martin was a threat to our community, and behind bars is the best place for him,” stated U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. He highlighted the effective use of technology and collaboration between law enforcement and prosecutors that led to Martin's arrest.

The incident occurred in August 2023 when Creek County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call at a Sapulpa residence. An 85-year-old woman reported that Martin entered her home masked and armed, demanding money and threatening her life if she did not comply. After stealing jewelry and assaulting the victim, Martin fled the scene.

Law enforcement used neighborhood video surveillance and FLOCK cameras to track Martin's escape vehicle. Tulsa Police officers stopped the vehicle after confirming it matched descriptions from Creek County authorities.

During a search of the vehicle, police found some of the stolen jewelry along with a mask and clothing linked to Martin through video evidence.

Investigations revealed Morgan Turley drove the getaway car. She later pled guilty in State Court for conspiring with Martin to commit robbery and falsely impersonating someone else during questioning by officers.

Martin is recognized as a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. He remains in custody awaiting transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

The case was investigated by the FBI, Creek County Sheriff’s Office, and Tulsa Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Dunn leading prosecution efforts.
