U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken Axel Ramirez-Hernandez, a 32-year-old Guatemalan national, into custody in Spring Valley on March 6. Ramirez-Hernandez is facing charges for illegal reentry after deportation and has previous convictions for sexual assault of a minor.
“ICE is committed to apprehending predators who commit horrific acts of violence against our youngest citizens and residents,” stated William P. Joyce, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in New York City. “Our officers will find these criminal aliens and seek their removal from the United States.”
Ramirez-Hernandez entered the U.S. illegally at an unspecified time and location without inspection by immigration officials. He was served with a notice to appear on July 6, 2012, as inadmissible to the U.S., leading to his removal order by an immigration judge on July 18, 2012. He was deported back to Guatemala on August 16, 2012.
The U.S. Border Patrol encountered him again on April 13, 2013, in McAllen, Texas, following another illegal entry into the country. This resulted in a notice of intent to reinstate his prior removal order. Subsequently, he was removed from the U.S. again on August 11, 2014.
Ramirez-Hernandez's criminal record includes a conviction by the Superior Court of Connecticut for sexual assault involving a victim under age sixteen on June 6, 2011. He received a sentence of five years imprisonment followed by eighteen months supervised release and ten years probation.
Additionally, he was convicted by the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Texas for illegal re-entry after deportation on January 23, 2014; this led to an eighteen-month incarceration sentence.
Local charges are also pending against Ramirez-Hernandez for driving while intoxicated in Ramapo, New York.
