Vallejo man indicted for illegal possession of ammunition

Michele Beckwith Acting U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California

A Vallejo man, Jeffrey Caldwell, 36, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of being a felon in possession of ammunition. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Michele Beckwith.

Court documents reveal that Caldwell's arrest followed a standoff with the Vallejo Police Department SWAT Team. During the arrest, officers discovered Caldwell had a privately manufactured firearm and ammunition. Due to more than ten prior felony convictions in California and Arizona for crimes such as assault, burglary, and stalking, Caldwell is prohibited from possessing ammunition. The investigation was conducted by the Vallejo Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Charles Campbell is handling the prosecution.

If found guilty, Caldwell could face up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. However, any sentence will be determined by the court based on statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines. It is important to note that these charges are allegations, and Caldwell is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
