Microsoft and Anduril Industries have announced an expanded partnership to advance the U.S. Army's Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) program. Under this agreement, Anduril will oversee production, hardware and software development, and delivery timelines for the IVAS program, pending Department of Defense approval. Microsoft Azure has been designated as Anduril's preferred cloud platform for all workloads related to IVAS and AI technologies.

The collaboration aims to address the growing complexity of modern warfare by providing soldiers with tools that enhance their situational awareness. The IVAS program integrates augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) into a body-worn system, offering soldiers beyond line-of-sight perception capabilities, which can improve combat effectiveness and survivability against drones.

Anduril brings its expertise in defense technology innovation and understanding of military requirements to ensure that future developments are tailored to the Army's needs while maintaining cost efficiency. Microsoft's cloud infrastructure will support seamless data integration and real-time insights crucial for soldier effectiveness.

Artificial intelligence is emphasized as foundational for technical innovations in national security missions, with the cloud being essential for delivering AI solutions effectively. Azure offers high resiliency, advanced capabilities, flexibility, and security to meet compliance requirements for sensitive data.

Palmer Luckey founded Anduril in 2017 with a focus on developing advanced defense technologies. His previous work with Oculus in the VR industry contributes significant expertise to this effort.
