Plainview man pleads guilty to producing child pornography

Leigha Simonton, United States Attorney, Northern District of Texas | U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas

Alejandro Aguirre, a 28-year-old resident of Plainview, Texas, has pleaded guilty to the charge of production of child pornography. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Chad E. Meacham. Aguirre entered his plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Amanda 'Amy' R. Burch and was remanded into custody while awaiting sentencing.

Court documents reveal that in June 2023, officers from the Amarillo Police Department (APD) received information regarding Aguirre's interactions with minors via a social media application and allegations of sexual intercourse with at least one minor. A forensic interview with a 16-year-old minor confirmed that Aguirre had engaged in sexual intercourse with her in Amarillo.

During an interview with APD detectives, Aguirre admitted to having sex with the minor and recording it on his cell phone. A search warrant for his phone led to the recovery of the video he described; however, it featured a different minor than initially interviewed.

APD officers sought assistance from a detective at the Plainview Police Department to identify the minor in the video. The detective identified her as another 16-year-old Plainview resident.

The second minor was also forensically interviewed and disclosed that Aguirre had contacted her through a social networking application and recorded their sexual encounter in Plainview—the video found on his cell phone.

Aguirre faces a mandatory minimum sentence ranging from 15 years to up to 30 years in federal prison. The date for his sentencing is yet to be determined.

The investigation involved collaboration between the Amarillo Police Department, Plainview Police Department, and assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Dallas Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Rancourt is handling prosecution duties for this case.
