Checotah man convicted for illegal firearm possession by federal jury

A Checotah resident, Douglas Ray Lollis, Jr., was convicted by a federal jury for illegal firearm possession. The verdict was delivered in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The trial began with jury selection on March 3, 2025, and concluded the following day with a guilty verdict. Evidence presented during the trial showed that Lollis had pawned a SAR 9mm pistol on December 22, 2022. At that time, he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior conviction punishable by more than one year of imprisonment.

The investigation leading to this conviction was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the trial and has ordered a presentence report before scheduling sentencing. Lollis remains out on bond pending sentencing.
