John Christopher Barrilleaux, a social worker from Thibodaux, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for healthcare fraud. The sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Barrilleaux, aged 64, had previously pleaded guilty to charges of healthcare fraud under 18 U.S.C. § 1347.
Court documents revealed that between 2008 and 2024, Barrilleaux submitted false claims amounting to millions of dollars for healthcare services that were never provided. To conceal the fraudulent activities, he fabricated patient notes and sent them to insurance companies as supporting documentation for his claims.
United States District Judge Barry Ashe handed down the sentence of 30 months imprisonment, which will be followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, Barrilleaux is required to pay restitution totaling $4,592,650 to the victimized companies and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
Acting U.S Attorney Simpson commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their role in investigating the case. The prosecution team included Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas D. Moses from the Financial Crimes Unit and Health Care Fraud Coordinator and Trial Attorney Kelly Z. Walters from the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division’s Fraud Section.
