A federal indictment has been unsealed against Jose Guadalupe Vazquez-Delgado, a 36-year-old Mexican national, charging him with possession of ammunition by an illegal alien and unlawful reentry into the United States. The announcement was made by Robert E. McGuire, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee.
Court documents reveal that Vazquez was involved in a confrontation while drinking heavily at a house in Antioch, Tennessee. An argument with another man escalated outside, where the victim's seven-year-old daughter witnessed Vazquez allegedly shooting her father multiple times before fleeing the scene. The victim required emergency surgery after being transported to the hospital.
At the crime scene, authorities discovered 14 shell casings along with Vazquez's truck, Mexican passport, and other personal items. Records indicate that Vazquez had previously been deported from the United States to Mexico on at least two occasions prior to this incident.
If found guilty, Vazquez could face up to fifteen years in federal prison for firearms charges and up to two years for immigration offenses.
Special Agent in Charge Joseph E. Carrico of the FBI Nashville Field Office stated: “Operations like this underscore the FBI's commitment to working with our partners to keep dangerous people and weapons from infecting our communities.” He emphasized that “The FBI in Tennessee is committed to actively investigating and apprehending individuals wanted for federal violations and those unlawfully present in the United States.”
The case is under investigation by several agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation Nashville Field Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Prosecutors Ahmed A. Safeeullah and Joshua Kurtzman are handling the case.
It is important to note that an indictment serves as an allegation; therefore, Vazquez remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
