Apple is set to release a new immersive concert experience featuring Metallica on its Apple Vision Pro platform. The concert, filmed in Mexico City during the band's M72 World Tour, will be available starting Friday, March 14. It includes performances of "Whiplash," "One," and "Enter Sandman," captured in Apple Immersive Video format. This technology allows for ultra-high-resolution 180-degree video and Spatial Audio, offering viewers close-up views of the band.
Customers can book a demo at local Apple Stores to preview the concert and explore spatial computing. A new EP titled "M72 World Tour: Mexico City" will also be released on Apple Music in Spatial Audio this Friday.
Metallica's Lars Ulrich commented on the collaboration with Apple, saying, “Game changing is putting it lightly.” Tor Myhren, Apple's vice president of Marketing Communications, added that the experience makes viewers feel as if they are present at the concert.
To capture the event from various perspectives, Apple used a custom stage layout with 14 cameras including stabilized and remote-controlled systems. Ulrich discussed the project with Zane Lowe from Apple Music at SXSW 2025.
In addition to Metallica's concert, users can access other content like episodes from the Adventure and Boundless series on Apple Vision Pro. Upcoming releases include VIP: Yankee Stadium and Bono: Stories of Surrender.
The Apple Vision Pro is available in several countries including Australia, Canada, China mainland, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, UAE, UK, and U.S., with demos available at all Apple Store locations where it is sold.
New films and episodes debut in U.S. English with subtitles available in additional languages. Some titles are accessible through Migu Video and Tencent Video apps in China mainland. Apple TV+ subscriptions cost $9.99 per month with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. Eligible customers purchasing select Apple products can receive three months of free access to Apple TV+.
