U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently apprehended Manuel Tellez, a 48-year-old Mexican national, in Dallas on March 4. ICE identified Tellez as a removable individual following his arrest for murder on April 3, 2022.
Court records from the 265th District Court in Dallas County indicate that Tellez was taken into custody after stabbing a man seven times, leading to the victim's death. He then returned to the scene with gasoline, set the deceased's body on fire, and left again.
Tellez faced an initial charge of homicide but later pled guilty to manslaughter. Instead of serving prison time, he received community supervision for eight years.
"This is an egregious offender," stated Josh Johnson, acting Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Dallas. "We are grateful for our federal partners within the Justice Department and U.S. Customs and Border Protection for helping us remove this high priority target from our communities."
The arrest involved collaboration between ICE and federal law enforcement agencies such as the FBI and CBP. Tellez is currently held in ICE custody pending immigration removal proceedings.
