A Cedar Rapids man with two federal firearms convictions has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison. Codie Lee Allen Fisher, 35, received the sentence on March 11, 2025, following a guilty plea on September 25, 2024, for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents revealed that Fisher was arrested by Cedar Rapids Police Department officers on June 8, 2024. The arrest followed multiple reports of disturbances involving firearms at an apartment complex. During the arrest, Fisher resisted and fought with officers. Authorities found marijuana, a knife, and a loaded handgun in his possession.
Fisher's criminal history includes 18 prior convictions, seven of which involve violence. In 2017, he was convicted in federal court for making a false statement when purchasing a firearm and served a 21-month prison sentence.
United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Fisher to 46 months in prison. After serving his term, Fisher will undergo three years of supervised release. The federal system does not allow parole.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.
On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a strategy to strengthen PSN by fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
Fisher remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until his transfer to federal prison.
Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt prosecuted the case with investigations conducted by the Cedar Rapids Safe Streets Task Force. This task force includes members from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
