U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced the arrest and removal of Jose Antonio Garcia, a 51-year-old illegal alien, on March 10. Garcia was deported to Mexico following his release from Calipatria State Prison where he had served time for attempted murder.
Joseph Freden, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, stated, "Garcia, a convicted aggravated felon without legal status in the United States, has been deported to his home country." He praised the officers involved for their commitment to public safety and national security.
Garcia had entered the United States illegally at least seven times before his conviction by the Los Angeles County Superior Court on September 28, 2007. He was found guilty of attempted murder and evasion of a peace officer resulting in death or injury and received a 20-year prison sentence.
The public is encouraged to report crimes or suspicious activities by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or submitting information through an online tip form.
