A U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement investigation has resulted in the indictment of Juan Carlos Ruiz-Diaz, a 44-year-old Mexican national, on charges of illegal reentry into the United States. This follows his previous removal from the country six times and two prior convictions for the same offense.

If convicted, Ruiz-Diaz could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.

Ruiz-Diaz was discovered to be illegally present in the United States on February 26. His past removals occurred on July 16, 2002; October 25, 2002; November 25, 2002; December 16, 2003; September 23, 2008; and April 28, 2011. His previous convictions for illegal reentry were recorded on August 27, 2008, and October 27, 2010. It is noted that he did not have consent from either the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to apply for readmission.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Arnold B. Corsmeier.
