US targets maritime firms aiding Iranian oil trade

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The United States has announced new sanctions targeting entities involved in the Iranian petroleum trade. This action is part of President Trump's "policy of maximum pressure on the Iranian regime to stop the flow of revenue it uses to fund destabilizing activities." The U.S. Department of State has imposed sanctions on three entities and identified three vessels as blocked property under Executive Order 13846, which reimposes certain sanctions related to Iran.

The sanctioned entities include PT. Bintang Samudra Utama (Bintang), Shipload Maritime Pte. Ltd., and PT. Gianira Adhinusa Senatama (Gianira). These companies have been designated for their involvement in significant transactions related to the transport or marketing of petroleum products from Iran.

Bintang is recognized for using its vessel, Celebes (IMO 8710730), to facilitate a ship-to-ship transfer between two U.S.-designated vessels, Star Forest (IMO 9237632) and Sobar (IMO 9221970), near Nipa, Indonesia, on December 25, 2024. Similarly, Shipload Maritime utilized its vessel Malili (IMO 9179921) for the same purpose, while Gianira employed Marina Vision (IMO 8106109).

These actions are intended to "degrade Iran’s STS operations and highlight the risks associated with facilitating Iran’s crude oil trade." The United States continues to focus on reducing revenues that support Iran's nuclear program and regional conflicts.

Petitions for removal from the Specially Designated Nationals List can be sent via email or referred through the Department of State's Delisting Guidance page.
