Shannon T. Hanson Acting United States Attorney for the District of Delaware | U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware
Robert Dorsey, a 47-year-old from New Jersey, was sentenced to 46 months in prison for trafficking firearms. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard G. Andrews on March 11, 2025.
Court documents reveal that between September and October 2023, Dorsey sold four firearms across three transactions to a law enforcement informant in New Jersey and Delaware. Among the weapons were a privately made firearm, known as a "ghost gun," and another firearm stolen from Maryland just a month prior to its sale on the black market. It was also noted that Dorsey believed one of the guns would be used in a violent crime. Additionally, he sold crack cocaine and heroin over five occasions, sometimes including both drugs and firearms in the same transaction.
Dorsey identified himself as the vice president of the "North Pole" chapter of the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club in Wilmington, DE. He described his role as a "one-percenter," an active member of the club, and involved other members during his last firearm sale to the informant.
Acting U.S. Attorney Shannon T. Hanson emphasized the public safety threat posed by trafficking firearms like PMFs and stolen guns: “Illegally trafficking guns provides individuals who are prohibited from possessing firearm with ready access to deadly weapons." Hanson commended law enforcement agencies for their efforts in disrupting unlawful firearm trafficking in New Jersey and Delaware.
Special Agent LC Cheeks Jr., ATF Newark Field Division, highlighted ATF's commitment to working with state, local, and federal partners: “These results demonstrate how partnerships between our agencies work to protect our communities and hold criminals accountable.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation with assistance from various state police departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Samuel S. Frey prosecuted the case.
