A federal grand jury in Honolulu has indicted Navor Salas Cruz, a 52-year-old Mexican national, for illegally reentering the United States after prior felony convictions and removals. Acting United States Attorney Kenneth M. Sorenson made the announcement.

Salas Cruz has been deported to Mexico at least six times and holds three felony convictions related to illegal reentry into the U.S. In 2018, he was convicted in Hawaii for illegal reentry and possession of firearms and ammunition as a felon, resulting in a 30-month federal prison sentence. Following his release, he was deported again in March 2020 but was arrested on Kauai in February 2025 after another illegal entry.

The indictment carries a potential penalty of up to ten years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine if Salas Cruz is convicted. The charge remains an accusation until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court. Sentencing would be determined by a U.S. District Judge considering statutory factors and sentencing guidelines.

Homeland Security Investigations is handling the case investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Darren W.K. Ching prosecuting.
